Bengals QB Dalton out with thumb injury
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton left Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns early in the third quarter and was ruled out with what the team called a right thumb injury.
Dalton was taken to the locker room and initially ruled questionable to return after he hit his hand during a scramble for the ball following an errant snap by rookie center Billy Price. The Browns recovered the loose ball and scored a touchdown two plays later to take a 35-7 lead with 12:56 to play in the quarter.
The team officially ruled him out at the end of the third.
Dalton was 10 of 17 for 100 yards, one touchdown and one interception before leaving. He was replaced by Jeff Driskel, a 2016 sixth-round pick who entered with seven career pass attempts, all this season.
A broken right thumb ended Dalton's 2015 season -- the best year of his career -- prematurely after the Bengals had started 10-2.
The Bengals were already without wideout A.J. Green (toe) and left tackle Cordy Glenn (back). Glenn's replacement, Jake Fisher, left with his own back injury and was ruled out.
