Iran supports U.N.-sponsored Yemen peace talks and is ready to help find a political solution, Iranian state television reported on Monday.

"Iran welcomes the talks in Sweden...Tehran is ready to help international talks to end the crisis and underlines the importance of accelerating providing humanitarian aid to the people," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement quoted by TV.

Iran supports Houthi rebels fighting a Saudi-led coalition in Yemen. Houthi officials are expected to travel to Sweden shortly for talks as early as Wednesday to end the nearly four-year-old war after the Saudi-led coalition allowed the evacuation of some of their wounded for treatment.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed his support for the talks in a tweet on Monday.

"All sides should enter constructive and responsible engagement to end the crisis in #Yemen," Zarif wrote. "The world has a historic responsibility to back dialogue including by halting arming of aggressors." (Writing by Parisa Hafezi Editing by Mark Heinrich)
