The Independent MP for El Fashaga constituency in El Gedaref, Mubarak El Nour has aid to a radio that due to the scarcity of diesel the harvesting operations have stopped in El Gedaref. He said that the farmer in the region are discontent and they want the government to intervene immediately to help improve the situation.
South of Khartoum, in the White Nile state, the farmer is serious concern regarding diesel quantity. They expressed that due to fuel price increase and the fuel crisis this season will not see any substantial agricultural growth. The farmers reiterated that the lack of diesel is a serious concern.
The diesel is the fuel that is used in the irrigation pumps and tractors and due to crises and increase in the prices, this will affect the farmers adversely.
As a part of the austerity measure in early January, the Sudanese government has raised the custom rates of the US dollars. This was an attempt to halt the decreasing pound in the black market. After this, the prices of basic commodities increased and as medicine is being imported, there was a 300 percent rise in their prices.
