Panthers sign K Catanzaro with Gano out
Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker Chandler Catanzaro signed with the Carolina Panthers on Friday, as starter Graham Gano will sit out Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns with a balky left knee.
Gano first appeared on the injury report last Friday with a knee injury, though he made all three of his attempts (one field goal, two extra points) Sunday in Tampa Bay.
The Panthers are carrying two kickers on their 53-man roster. A spot was created for Catanzaro when guard Amini Silatolu (knee) was placed on injured reserve.
Tampa Bay released Catanzaro after he missed two kicks in a Week 10 loss against Washington. Catanzaro beat the Browns in overtime two weeks prior, drilling a 59-yard field goal for the win. It was the longest overtime field goal in NFL history.
Prior to being released, Catanzaro made 11 of 15 field goals and converted 23 of 27 extra points.
