Soccer-Bolton owner Anderson to personally pay outstanding wages
Bolton Wanderers owner and chairman Ken Anderson will personally fund the outstanding salaries owed to the club's playing and coaching staff, the Championship (second-tier) club said on Wednesday.
Wanderers said an agreement with the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) to pay wages had been explored but that was not the club's "preferred route".
Earlier this year, Bolton players went on strike and a pre-season friendly against St Mirren was cancelled because of a similar wage dispute.
Financial problems have surrounded the club in recent years, with the Trotters avoiding administration after agreeing a deal to pay off their main creditor BluMarble Capital Ltd in September.
Bolton, who narrowly avoided relegation from the second tier last season, are currently second-from-bottom in the table with 18 points from 21 matches.
