The Indian government has withdrawn the fake news guidelines after massive outrage and a PM Narendra Modi directive.

Smriti Irani's I&B Ministry had issued guidelines about consequences on journalists publishing fake news.

Indian Government had warned journalists of consequences in case of news is confirmed as fake. As per the amended guidelines, the accreditation of the journalists would be suspended for six months in the first violation, a year for the second and would be permanently cancelled in case of the third violation.
