Memphis Grizzlies wing Dillon Brooks will have surgery on his right big toe this week to repair a ruptured ligament, the team announced Wednesday.

Multiple reports earlier Wednesday said Brooks is expected to miss the rest of the season, but the team said it will update his status after the surgery.

Brooks, 22, was hurt Saturday against the San Antonio Spurs in his seventh game back after missing the previous 21 games with a left knee sprain. In 18 games this season, he's averaging 7.5 points and 1.7 rebounds in 18.3 minutes, while shooting 37.5 percent from 3-point range.

The second-year player was expected to take on a bigger role after the trades of wing players MarShon Brooks and Wayne Selden.

"Minor bump on my journey to greatness but I will be back soon," Brooks tweeted Wednesday.
