International Yoga Day was observed with enthusiasm across Odisha today with yoga camps organised at several locations, creation of a sand sculpture at Puri and the Union Tribal Affairs Minister, Jual Oram, participating in a programme in Rourkela.
Yoga can play a significant role in promoting peace, harmony and brotherhood in the world besides bringing prosperity, growth and good health, the Gajapati Maharaj said.
Highlighting the benefits of the exercise, Oram said people should perform yoga regularly in order to keep themselves physically and mentally fit and stres-free.
The International Yoga Day was also observed at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur near Balasore. ITR's Director, B K Das emphasised the importance of yoga to maintain physical, emotional and spiritual health.
In the seaside pilgrim town of Puri, internationally acclaimed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik created a beautiful sand sculpture with the message "yoga for harmony & peace".
A number of yoga camps were organised throughout the state where people belonging to different sections of society, including school students, leaders and distinguished personalities took part in the yoga sessions.
The day was also observed in educational institutions and industrial units in the state.
