The French Development Agency (AFD) is all set to make its first investment in digital innovation in South Africa when it signs a three-year grant worth €950 000 next week.

The money will go into launching and fund the Digital Content Hub of Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precincts which is based in Braamfontein. The hub started as a result of the partnership between French Institute of South Africa's (IFAS) Digital Lab Africa initiative and Tshimologong.

The initiative will be supporting startups in Africa which are involved in making digital and multimedia content.

The launching event will be attended by Christophe Farnaud, the French Ambassador to South Africa.

Tshimologong will be using the grant of R14.5-million (€950 000) in expanding its activities to bring on board audiovisual content creation that includes video games, holograms, animation, virtual reality and augmented reality.

The Digital Content Hub will be under the management of Tshimologong in partnership with French multimedia and creative firms.
