President Donald Trump's nominee, Kelly Craft has been ordered to serve as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. She will be facing her confirmation hearing on coming Wednesday. Craft's nomination hearing is scheduled by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on June 19 at 10:15 am. Kelly Craft commenced as ambassador to Canada in October 2017 and plunged immediately into contentious trade negotiations from Trump's side. Craft is likely to replace Nikki Haley aho left the post in the end of 2018.
Craft is a Kentucky native and the wife of billionaire coal executive Joe Craft; both are influential Republican donors. She is likely to face some tough questions about her family’s business interests and her views on climate change during her confirmation hearing, as well as questions about geopolitical issues from North Korea to Iran.
