The Milwaukee Brewers placed second baseman Jonathan Villar (right thumb) on the 10-day disabled list on Sunday and called up outfielder Brett Phillips from Triple-A Colorado Springs ahead of their series finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the team announced.

The Brewers also sent right-hander Aaron Wilkerson back to Colorado Springs after he was called up to be the 26th man for Saturday's doubleheader.

Wilkerson, 29, pitched the eighth inning of the nightcap, giving up three runs on three hits.

In three games for the Brewers this season, Wilkerson has given up 10 runs over nine innings.

Villar, 27, is batting .261 with 26 runs and 14 stolen bases this season. Villar was used as a pinch-hitter in the first game Saturday and started the second game, drawing a pair of walks.

Phillips has appeared in nine games for the Brewers this season, picking up two hits in 14 at-bats. He's hit .240 with six home runs and 25 RBIs and 42 runs in 71 games with Colorado Springs.

The Brewers have dropped five straight, including the last four against the Pirates, ahead of Sunday's finale.
