Ciego de Ávila scientific center will help reduce disasters in Caribbean

The meteorological center of Ciego de Ávila will function as a space to train specialists from the Caribbean Community, informed the Minister of Science, Technology, and Environment, Elba Rosa Pérez.
In this regard, he said that the Ciego de Ávila institution will host three disaster risk reduction training courses for specialists, researchers, and scientists from Caribbean nations.
He stressed that the Avilanian facility has conditions, innovative technology, and a competent staff so it can become an excellent convention unit in the central area of Cuba.
He specified that it is an ideal place for the celebration of events on meteorological forecasts and climate change, in addition, it can provide technical assistance and scientific-technological services and innovation to sectors of the economy and society.
He added that there are well-trained specialists in Ciego de Ávila, but it is important to prepare daily and study languages in order to know well the information that exists about meteorological science advanced in the world.
The Avilanian scientific institution, officially inaugurated this Friday, after concluding the second stage of civil construction, will be an essential instrument for disaster risk management and adaptation to climate change, based on sustainable development in the region of the Caribbean.
Enabled with modern equipment, the center will achieve more accurate forecasting models and an early warning system in the face of catastrophic atmospheric phenomena, as well as offering climate and agro-meteorology studies.
