Both the houses of Bihar legislature shortly after commencement of the monsoon session were adjourned for the day today after obituary references.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi were present in the state legislative assembly where Speaker Vijay Kumar Chowdhury read out the obituary references of the departed members.

Earlier, the Deputy CM, who also holds the finance portfolio, tabled the first supplementary budget for the year 2018-19 in the House.

Before the commencement of the session, Congress legislators were seen standing outside the assembly building carrying placards denouncing the recent attack on Swami

Agnivesh in the neighboring state of Jharkhand. Congress MLA Shakil Ahmed Khan told reporters the attack on Swami Agnivesh shows that the BJP government, be it at the Centre or in the states, believes in mob rule and not debate and discussions, which are the hallmark of a democracy.

CPI-ML legislators were seen carrying placards and raising slogans in protest against rising incidence of crimes against women in Bihar.

After the days proceedings were adjourned, leader of the opposition in the assembly Tejashwi Yadav told reporters our party will underscore the failings of the Nitish Kumar government in both the Houses. The so-called double engine which came into being following the opportunistic alliance between the JD(U) and the BJP has brought no benefits to the state.

Does this government have even a single achievement to speak of ever since the Chief Minister formed an alliance with the BJP the party in power at the Centre claiming that the decision was taken in the interest of Bihar. On the other hand, law and order seems to have collapsed as crimes against women are taking place at an unprecedented rate, Yadav alleged.
