Maharashtra transport minister Diwakar Raote today announced in the Legislative Council that if the state transport buses are damaged during agitations, a compensation would be recovered from the culprits who would face criminal cases.

Eleven ST buses were damaged during the recent agitation of milk farmers in the state, the minister said. It caused a loss of about Rs 1. 1 crore to the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), he said.

As many as 222 MSRTC buses were damaged since last June in various agitations in the state, Raote said. Appealing people not to damage buses, he said henceforth damage caused to MSRTC buses will be recovered from agitators and criminal cases for destruction of government property would be filed against them.
