Google on Tuesday announced the launch of a new program - Google News Initiative (GNI) Advertising Lab - to support small and medium-sized news organizations producing original news for local and regional communities in India. The program aims to uplift their digital advertising revenue via tailored training and diagnosis.

The new GNI Advertising Lab program, aimed at digital newsrooms employing up to 100 members, will select up to 800 eligible small to medium news publishers. Expert consultants will provide tailored training and hands-on technical ads support to the participating news organizations with a focus of improving their digital infrastructure and uplifting online ads monetisation opportunities.

The insights and business direction provided through the interactive sessions as part of the Google News Initiative were eye opening for the team. We are excited and thankful that a similar scaled program is being launched to further help us keep pace with the changes in the publishing landscape.

The application window for the GNI Advertising Lab program will remain open until November 5, 2021, 2021 (23:59 IST). All eligible applications will be reviewed by a combination of the Google Project Team and external consultants and shortlisted applicants will be notified within 60 days after the closure of the application window.
