Gurucool, a social media platform equipped with learning tools, has announced the debut of its latest endeavor, #Mission10000. This initiative aims to revolutionize education in India's rural areas by providing scholarships worth over 10 crore INR to 10,000 disadvantaged students within the next 30 days. This marks the first season of the 'Panchayat Gurucool' series, striving to establish 24x7 Digital Schools and convert panchayats into Smart Panchayats.
To ensure successful implementation, Gurucool collaborates closely with local communities, schools, leaders, NGOs, and government entities. Future phases under this mission include 'Gurucool Chale Hum!' and 'A Million Dreams.' According to the Brookings Institute, at the current pace, it would take 100 years for young people in developing countries like India to achieve similar educational outcomes as those in developed nations. Gurucool aims to mitigate these 'educational inequalities' characterized by poor accessibility, quality, and personalization.
Despite the prevalent use of smartphones among rural youth, educational resources are widely dispersed. Reports from ASER highlight that 42% of rural students aged 14-18 struggle with basic English, and 50% with basic math. India's 'learning poverty' has soared to 70%. The one-size-fits-all approach of the current educational system fails to cater to diverse student needs, compounded by the high costs of private schooling and outdated higher education curriculums. Gurucool proposes an innovative solution—an Educational Network leveraging a social media platform with gamified, AI-powered learning tools.
'People often ask our motivation,' said Adil Meraj, Founder of Gurucool. 'Education isn't anyone's monopoly. It is everyone's right, and fulfilling that right is Gurucool's mission. We invite like-minded ed-tech partners to join us. Our #Mission10000 is merely the beginning.' Recognized among the Top 5 startups at the Bihar Startup Summit and the Top 40 globally by TiE, Gurucool has garnered significant accolades, including the MBillionth Award for Mobile Innovations in South Asia. It has also been featured in over 20 reputable news outlets such as The Hindu and The Financial Express. Recently, it partnered with the Telangana Government to implement its app in 204 residential schools.
Gurucool envisions curating global knowledge to make learning equitable and meaningful for all.
