In a significant development for Kerala's fisheries sector, the state government has approved the construction of a new fishing harbour in the coastal village of Pozhiyoor. The project will receive an initial allocation of Rs 5 crore.
Kerala Finance Minister K N Balagopal announced the funding on Thursday, marking the first phase of the harbour's construction. The total estimated cost of the project is Rs 343 crore, as revealed in this year's budget.
The first phase involves constructing a 65-meter-long breakwater. The new fishing harbour will be located near the Vizhinjam International Seaport, further boosting regional maritime infrastructure.
