LUCKNOW, India, July 18 (Reuters) - A tragic rail accident struck the northern state of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, leaving at least one person dead, according to television reports.
Ten coaches of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed in Gonda district, around 100 km from the state capital, Lucknow. TV footage displayed chilling images of the train's coaches lying on their sides along the tracks, with passengers stranded and sitting outside with their luggage.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the derailment. The NDTV channel confirmed the fatality, marking a somber day for the region's commuters.
