The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has squarely placed the blame on Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for the tragic derailment of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express in Uttar Pradesh, which resulted in four fatalities and left more than 20 others injured on Thursday.

TMC's Rajya Sabha MP and national spokesperson Sushmita Dev criticized the safety standards of the railways, declaring that the vital transportation network is no longer safe for millions of commuters. Mahua Moitra, TMC MP from Krishnanagar, lamented that the railways have entered an 'emergency room' phase following ten years under the Narendra Modi government.

Dev shared her grief with the families of the deceased and showed solidarity with the injured, while holding Vaishnaw, whom she dubbed the Prime Minister's 'blue-eyed boy,' responsible for the loss of lives. Moitra echoed these sentiments, stressing the urgent need for safety measures like the automated train collision avoidance system, KAVACH, across all railway routes. The recent accident follows another derailment in June, where ten people were killed and 40 injured in West Bengal.
