Government Seeks New HPCL Chief via Search-Cum-Selection

The government has issued a call for applications for the top position at Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL), employing the search-cum-selection committee route for the second time this year to identify a new head for the state-owned oil firm.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) has invited applications from experienced engineers, chartered accountants, and cost accountants with postgraduate management degrees from leading institutions. Candidates must have at least five years of leadership experience and apply by September 14, per the advertisement on the ministry’s website.

This new selection process follows the government's headhunter, the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB), rejecting all candidates interviewed in June for the HPCL top job. The HPCL Chairman and Managing Director post will be vacant starting September 1, 2024, as the current CMD, Pushp Kumar Joshi, is set to retire on reaching the age of 60. The search committee can recommend relaxing eligibility criteria for outstanding candidates.
