In a major development, the Supreme Court has directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to announce the NEET-UG 2024 results by 12 noon on July 20, while masking the identities of aspirants. The directive comes in the wake of persistent allegations of malpractices in the examination process.
During Thursday's hearing, a bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud stressed that any decision to conduct a re-test must be based on concrete evidence proving the compromise of the exam's sanctity. The top court will continue hearing a series of petitions on July 22, which seek the cancellation, re-test, and a court-monitored probe into the malpractices during the NEET-UG held on May 5.
The spotlight was on allegations of question paper leaks in Patna and Hazaribagh, contrasting with claims from Godhra, where officials reportedly accepted money to fill OMR sheets. The ongoing CBI investigation was also discussed, with the bench indicating that revealing details could impede the probe. The result, awaited by over 23 lakh students, is crucial for admissions to various medical and allied courses nationwide.
