"Game of Thrones" is completely set in a new form called "House of the Dragon," which has been dropped its first season on August 21, 2022, on HBO. Season 2 was announced just five days after the first season premiered. Now according to the production list, House of the Dragon Season 2 will begin filming on March 6 this year in London.

The project summary is as follows:

“Centuries before the events of A Game of Thrones, House Targaryen-the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria-took up residence on Dragonstone. Fire & Blood begins their tale with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and goes on to recount the generations of Targaryens who fought to hold that iconic seat, all the way up to the civil war that nearly tore their dynasty apart.”

George R.R. Martin, the creator of Game of Thrones, already discussed the development of the upcoming Jon Snow spin-off in a recent blog post. He disclosed in the post that he worked on the series with Harington and two other mystery writers/showrunners. Martin stated in the blog post that Harington's crew is excellent but he was unable to divulge who will write the series.

George R.R. Martin said, "Yes, it was Kit Harrington who brought the idea to us. I cannot tell you the names of the writers/showrunners since that has not been cleared for release yet, but Kit brought them in too, his own team, and they are terrific."

Award-winning director Alan Taylor will be at the helm, and Ryan Condal both producing and pen House of The Dragon Season 2.

Though the show's official release date has yet to be announced, Ewan Mitchell (Prince Aemond Targaryen) revealed to The Face that the cast and crew will be filming for eight months in 2023. So, based on almost all of the production timelines, we can assume that House of the Dragon Season 2 will premiere in mid-2024 if all goes well.

Ewan Mitchell told, We’re going to be shooting for eight months next year,” said Mitchell. “We’re in the preparation phase of that now, which is why I’ve got my hair buzzed off, for the wig fittings.”

The drama "House of the Dragon," which is based on George R.R. Martin's "Fire & Blood," is set 200 years before the events depicted in "Game of Thrones" and centers on how the House of Targaryen descends into civil war.

King Viserys's passing and Prince Aegon's usurpation of Dragonstone are announced by Princess Rhaenys in the last moments of Season 1. As a result of her shock, Rhaenyra miscarries. Prince Daemon believes Viserys was killed, and it is now high time for battle. Ser Erryk brings Viserys' crown, and Rhaenyra is proclaimed to be queen. Arrax and Lucerys are slain by Vhagar.

According to Variety's interview with co-creator and executive producer Ryan Condal, House of the Dragon Season 2 will continue the Targaryen civil conflict known as the Dance of the Dragons.
