The historical drama 'Shogun,' depicting a power struggle in feudal Japan, has secured 25 nominations, leading this year's Emmy contenders. The FX network series, which remakes a 1980 miniseries based on James Clavell's 1975 novel, will vie for the best drama award.
Joining 'Shogun' in the top drama category is Netflix's British royal saga 'The Crown.' The drama features actors Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai, both nominated for their performances. 'The Bear,' another FX series, received 23 nominations, setting a record for a comedy. 'The Bear' won best comedy at the last Emmys.
The Emmys, television's highest honors, will be awarded on Sept. 15 during a live broadcast on ABC. The ceremony follows a previous delay caused by strikes in Hollywood. This year's nominations highlight diverse storytelling across multiple genres and platforms.
