AYANA Bali’s latest cultural and events center, the SAKA Museum, has earned a spot on Time Magazine’s prestigious World’s Greatest Places list of 2024. The museum, part of AYANA Bali’s resort, merges Bali's heritage with state-of-the-art amenities, offering a primary venue for the island’s spiritual and cultural expressions.
The first exhibition, 'Walking Among the Giants,' highlights a collection of ogoh-ogoh, large effigies used during Bali’s New Year 'Day of Silence' celebration, Nyepi. Crafted by local communities, these artworks reflect iconic characters from Balinese lore.
Designed by Napp Studio & Architects, the museum’s architecture symbolizes Bali’s scenic beauty. It features elements like the night sky in the light-studded ceiling and volcanic rocks in its materials, emphasizing the connection between culture and nature.
“This recognition from Time Magazine is an honor,” said Judith Bosnak, Director of SAKA Museum. “We aspire to elevate Balinese culture globally through our exhibits.” The museum also hosts events in its elegant East Gallery and outdoor SAKA Garden, accommodating up to 400 guests.
Upcoming attractions will feature the ancient Subak water management system and a light and sound dome focusing on Nyepi. The museum underscores AYANA’s dedication to preserving and promoting Bali’s living heritage.
