Taylor Swift fans took to social media on Thursday to express sorrow, anger, and disbelief after the singer's three Vienna concerts were abruptly cancelled. The cancellation followed the Austrian government's confirmation of a planned attack at the venue.
A total of 195,000 fans were expected to attend the concerts at Vienna's Ernst Happel Stadium, including many who traveled from abroad. 'One year of excitement is gone in one second,' lamented a fan on Instagram after the concerts were cancelled less than 24 hours before the first performance.
The post received over 5,500 responses, ranging from understanding to outrage. Many fans urged Swift to address the issue directly and reschedule the shows. Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Kanner supported the cancellation, stating it prevented a tragedy. Authorities said two suspects, including a 19-year-old Austrian with alleged ties to the Islamic State, were detained. Swift has not yet made a public statement on the matter.
The concert organizer, Barracuda Music, stated that all tickets would be refunded within 10 days, but many fans expressed that the reimbursement did not cover their travel expenses. Despite the frustration, some fans showed gratitude for their safety and shared their disbelief at the situation.
