There was a strong demand for all categories of teas during Sale-38 which was held on September 21 and 22, a Calcutta Tea Traders Association (CTTA) Official said here on Friday.

According to CTTA data, the total offerings amounted to 2,35,994 packages comprising 1,18,657 packages of CTC, 73,935 packages of Orthodox, 4,599 packages of Darjeeling leaf and 38,803 packages of Dust teas.

CTC offerings met with strong demand and a total of 24,44,867 kg of different quality was demanded at an average price of Rs 210.85 per kg. Around 25.38 per cent of total quantity was sold above Rs 250 per kg and 17.89 per cent was sold below Rs 150 per kg. TCPL operated actively while Hindustan Unilever and Western India remained selective. Other internals witnessed good support. Darjeeling leaf also registered strong support during this week. A total of 45,557 kg of different types was sold at an average price of Rs 304.79 per kg. Only 15.53 per cent of total quantity was claimed at above Rs 500 per kg while about 34.8 per cent was sold below Rs 250 per kg. Internals operated actively but Hindustan Unilever and exporters were very selective.

The demand for this week's Dust teas witnessed good support. A total of 9,92,344 kg of different categories was demanded at an average price of Rs 227.68 per kg. Around 43.75 per cent of total quantity was sold above Rs 250 per kg and about 17.59 per cent was sold below Rs 150 per Kg. Hindustan Unilever operated actively. Good support was marked from TCPL. Western India operated on liquoring lines and other internals witnessed fair enquiry.
