The International Solar Alliance or ISA -- a joint association of 121 countries to promote the economical and eco-friendly solar energy-- has launched a corporate advisory group headed by Pranav R Mehta, a domain expert.

Announced on the sidelines of the Clean Energy Ministerial, the ISA said on Thursday that the group would bring together the corporate sector and the solar industry sector.

The advisory group will be headed by Mehta, an Indian corporate sector leader from the solar industry, said Ajay Mathur, Director General of International Solar Alliance.

Mehta is the founder and chairman of the National Solar Energy Federation of India and director of the Global Solar Council.

“I am excited that the wealth of experience and entrepreneurial spirit of the corporate Sector will help accelerate the energy transition and solar growth in all these countries,” Mehta said.

The prime focus of the alliance is to work towards decreasing the dependency on fossil fuels and encourage solar power utilisation throughout the global community particularly in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and the Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

ISA, also known as International Agency for Solar Policy and Application (IASPA) is headquartered in India.

It was initially proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the 2015 COP summit and was launched in collaboration with the then President of France, Francois Hollande.

Since then, it has been joined by 121 ''sunshine countries'', located between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn.
