Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir killed three Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists, including a Pakistani one in twin operations in Kulgam in the last 24 hours. J-K Police got intelligence input on the presence of terrorists in the Ahwatoo area of Kulgam. A joint cordon-and-search operation was launched by police, Army and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in the area.

During the search operation, as the joint search party approached the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the security forces which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter. According to the police, two local terrorists were killed in the encounter. They were identified as Mohammad Shafi Ganie of Batpora and Mohammad Asif Wani alias Yawar of Takia Gopalpora.

As per police records, both the killed terrorists were categorized terrorists and were linked with the proscribed terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). Police said both the terrorists were involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on police/security forces and civilian atrocities. Earlier on Monday, J-K Police, along with Army and CRPF, launched a joint cordon-and-search operation in Batpora village of Kulgam following the input of the presence of terrorists in the area.

During the search operation, as the joint search party approached the suspected spot, the hiding terrorist targeted the civilians as well as the joint team in a bid to escape. Although the civilians were evacuated to a safer place, an Army soldier and two civilians received gunshot injuries. They were immediately shifted to the hospital for treatment. In the ensuing encounter, a Pakistani terrorist, identified as Abu Hurarah linked with proscribed terror outfit JeM, was killed. Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said that besides involvement in several terror crimes, the Pakistani terrorist was involved in the recruitment of local youths into terror ranks.

Incriminating materials, arms and ammunitions, including an AK-56, two AK-47, a pistol, a grenade, four magazines and a pistol magazine, were recovered from both the sites of encounters. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation. In this regard, cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered in respective police stations and investigations have been initiated. (ANI)
