The Delhi High Court on Wednesday reserved its order on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's plea challenging his arrest by the Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Excise policy case. The Court also reserved its order on Kejriwal's plea for interim bail. Justice Neena Bansal Krishna's bench decided to reserve the order after hearing the arguments extensively.
The Court has scheduled July 29, 2024, for the hearing of Kejriwal's regular bail plea. During the proceedings, CBI lawyer DP Singh argued that contrary to Kejriwal's claims, there was no need for re-evaluation of the evidence at the investigation stage. Singh emphasized that ample material justifies Kejriwal's arrest and that the Petitioner was confronted with this material during his examination.
CBI further asserted that as the investigating agency, it has the right to interrogate and arrest the accused while complying with legal requirements. Singh stated that Kejriwal's evasive responses during the June 25, 2024, interrogation necessitated custodial interrogation. Senior Advocate Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, argued that the arrest was unnecessary, highlighting previous release orders in Kejriwal's favor. He contended that Kejriwal is being subjected to persecution and harassment and requested regular bail. The court will deliver its decision in due course.
