The Czech government has opted for South Korea's Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) to build two new nuclear power units at the Dukovany nuclear plant. The decision comes after a prolonged tender process in which KHNP competed against France’s EDF.
Prime Minister Petr Fiala announced that the Korean offer was superior based on multiple criteria. The tender, managed by the 70%-state-owned CEZ, could also lead to additional units being built at the Temelin power station.
The project aims to start construction later this decade, with a targeted completion date of 2036, marking the country's largest energy investment to date.
