After securing victory in the by-polls, AAP MLA Mohinder Bhagat was sworn in on Wednesday as the newly elected MLA for Jalandhar West. The oath-taking ceremony was held in the presence of Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
The newly elected MLA convened a meeting with the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation, including Commissioner Gautam Jain, Local Body Minister Sardar Balkar Singh, Jalandhar Center MLA Raman Arora, and other officials on Tuesday to discuss pressing issues. AAP retained the Jalandhar West seat with a margin of 37,235 votes, securing 55,246 votes, or 58.39 percent, out of the total 94,609 counted votes. BJP's Sheetal Angural polled 17,921 votes, while Congress nominee Surinder Kaur garnered 16,757.
Bhagat shared his victory on social media, expressing gratitude to the party workers and volunteers for their relentless efforts. AAP leader Sanjay Singh attributed the party's success to its unity and warned defectors of political downfall while congratulating Punjab's CM and party workers for the triumph.
