In response to intense rainfall, all educational institutions in Wayanad district, including professional colleges, will be closed on Thursday. However, pre-scheduled examinations, including PSC exams, will not be affected. Notably, Model Residential and Navodaya Schools are not subject to this closure.
The meteorological department has issued a red alert for Wayanad, forecasting severe rainfall, and an orange alert for eight additional districts—Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod—predicting extremely heavy rainfall in these areas.
Moreover, a yellow alert has been announced for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Thrissur, and Palakkad districts. Orange alerts have been issued for ten districts, including Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod for the following day, with yellow alerts for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Alappuzha. The Kerala coast is projected to experience winds up to 55 km/h, prompting warnings for fishermen to avoid sea travel until Sunday.
Earlier, continuous heavy rains led district administrations in eight districts to close educational institutions on Wednesday. Kannur, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Palakkad, Thrissur, Idukki, Alappuzha, and Kottayam were among the districts affected. Alappuzha closed schools due to persistent rain and waterlogging.
District collectors have confirmed that there will be no changes to the previously scheduled exams. The weather department anticipates that heavy rains will continue in the state for the next four days. (ANI)
