Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced on Wednesday that the double-decker flyover model will be implemented for future metro lines. This declaration came during the inauguration of Bengaluru's first double-decker flyover, spanning from Silk Board to Ragi Gudda in Jayanagar, for a trial run.

In a press release from his office, DK Shivakumar remarked, 'Land acquisition is challenging. Double-decker flyovers, though slightly more expensive, greatly ease traffic.' The newly inaugurated 5.25 km flyover, which cost Rs 450 crore, will see its expenses shared by BBMP and BMRCL.

'This infrastructure will benefit about 30% of commuters towards Hosur Road, particularly aiding Electronic City, HSR Layout, and Mahadevapura. An additional plan costing Rs 5,475 crore has been drafted to build a 9.5 km elevated 5-lane road in Bengaluru,' he added. The full opening of the flyover will follow successful trial runs, and subsequent projects will be placed before the Cabinet for approval.
