In a tragic incident, the body of a six-month-old infant, swept away by the swift currents of an overflowing nullah in Nandurbar, Maharashtra, on July 16, was found on Wednesday, according to officials.
Nandurbar Tahsildar Dipak Girase informed that the infant and his parents were traveling to Shahada on a motorcycle when they attempted to cross the nullah. The child, along with the motorcycle, was dragged by the forceful floodwaters. The mother was rescued, but the infant could not be saved. 'Due to the heavy rain, the water level increased significantly,' Girase told ANI. The body was discovered on Wednesday morning.
The state of Maharashtra has been grappling with incessant rains for the past several days, leading to widespread flooding and destruction. In Thane's Bhiwandi area, the Kamwari River overflowed, inundating homes in nearby slums. Residents in the Sultania Gali slum have been displaced due to knee-deep water entering their homes.
