On Thursday, the Central Government, through the Ministry of Law and Justice, announced the appointment of Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad as the Acting Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court. The notification stated that the President, using the powers conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, is pleased to appoint Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, currently a Judge of the Jharkhand High Court, to fulfill the duties of the Chief Justice with effect from July 20, 2024. This appointment comes following the retirement of Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi on July 19, 2024.
Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, born on June 20, 1967, holds an M.A. and an LLB degree. He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Jharkhand High Court and took his oath on September 26, 2014. He later transferred to Orissa High Court, where he joined as a Judge on March 12, 2015.
During his tenure at the Orissa High Court, Justice Prasad served on various committees including those focused on judicial training, juvenile justice, and infrastructure. Following his repatriation from Orissa High Court, he took his oath as a Judge of the High Court of Jharkhand on November 22, 2018. (ANI)
