The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organized a protest march to the corporation office condemning the death of sanitation worker Christopher Joy, who lost his life while cleaning the Amayizhanjan canal in Thampanoor, Thiruvananthapuram. Police deployed water cannons to manage the demonstrators.
Joy, employed by the municipal corporation, tragically passed away after being missing in the drainage canal for 46 hours. Authorities discovered his body on July 15. Local councillor Rajendran stated the body was found near Sree Chitra Home at Thakarapparambu.
As a gesture of support, the Kerala Cabinet granted Rs. 10 lakh from the Chief Minister's Relief Funds to Joy's mother. Despite coordinated rescue operations involving the Fire Force, National Disaster Response Force, Indian Navy, and even a robot with a camera, the body was retrieved only after 46 hours.
