The governor of Russia's Kursk region, Alexei Smirnov, announced on Friday that debris from a Ukrainian drone hitting a substation resulted in a fire, leading to electricity supply being cut off to Kurchatov, home to a significant nuclear plant.
In a Telegram statement, Smirnov reported that Kurchatov, a town with a population of 42,000, along with parts of adjacent districts, had lost power.
Hostilities have moved closer to the Kursk nuclear plant recently, as Ukrainian forces launched an unexpected offensive against the Russian border area over the past four days. (Written by Felix Light; Edited by Alex Richardson)
