Amid the ongoing protest in Kolkata over the rape-murder case at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, spiritual leader and founder of the Art of Living, condemned the 'unpleasant' incident. He asserted that it demonstrates societal frustration and a lack of moral ethics.
In a video released by The Art of Living, Ravi Shankar remarked, "A very unpleasant incident has occurred in recent days, showing the amount of frustration and lack of morality in society. However, Navaratri is approaching, and people are dancing and celebrating."
The spiritual leader also highlighted safety concerns, stating, "Certain areas in this country remain unsafe. Such atrocities against women, children, and the elderly must be condemned and dealt with sternly." He urged collective efforts to prevent cultural degradation and violence.
Touching on a separate but related issue, Ravi Shankar expressed solidarity with medical professionals facing attacks while demonstrating peacefully. "Doctors are there to save lives, yet they are being attacked. This shows a lack of awareness. To the medical community, we stand with you," he stated.
The rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College on August 9 sparked widespread outrage, leading to protests within and beyond the medical fraternity.
The Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA) announced on Thursday that they will resume their strike to protest the heinous act. On Wednesday evening, a mob vandalized the hospital campus, forcing security officials to intervene.
