Organic Exports in Uttarakhand Plummet: What's Behind the 66% Decline?

In a significant setback to the organic food industry, Uttarakhand has witnessed a 66% drop in its organic product exports, as reported by the Confederation of Organic Food Producers and Marketing Agencies on Tuesday.

Chairman DS Rawat emphasized that the steep decline is rooted in the unfulfilled promises of the 'Uttarakhand Organic' policy and widespread migration due to the unfeasibility of agriculture. He called for immediate state government intervention to incentivize organic farming, establish marketplaces, and offer comprehensive training to farmers.

Supported by APEDA, Pantnagar University signed an MoU with COII to support farmers through technology transfer and training. As organic farming could rejuvenate related sectors like horticulture and handicrafts, the focus remains on reversing migration by making agriculture profitable.
