PTI's Uzmi Athar Wins Ulrich Wickert Award for Impactful Story on Fluoride

PTI correspondent Uzmi Athar has received the international Ulrich Wickert Award for Children's Rights for her impactful reporting on the harmful effects of high fluoride concentrations in water. The story, published by PTI in January 2023, reveals the severe consequences of excessive fluoride levels on children's health in several Rajasthan villages.

Ulrich Wickert, a former German TV anchorman, alongside a high-calibre jury, selected Athar for this prestigious journalism award. The recognition from the Ulrich Wickert Foundation will be officially awarded on September 5.

The story sheds light on a critical public health issue, underlining the need for urgent intervention to protect vulnerable communities, especially children, from the dangers of fluoride contamination in drinking water.
