The standoff between house surgeons and nurses at SCB Medical College and Hospital was resolved on Wednesday evening, restoring normal services, according to an official statement.

Earlier, the hospital experienced partial service disruption as approximately 250 house surgeons halted their general duties in protest against the alleged high-handedness of the nursing staff.

A committee led by Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) Commissioner Bijay Kumar Dash listened to both associations' arguments. The decision was made to conduct a departmental inquiry, leading to both sides agreeing to resume their duties.

'The delivery of patient care will now function smoothly,' confirmed Dr Jayant Kumar Panda, a committee member, adding that cooperation from all will ensure continued smooth services.

While the house surgeons were on strike, they maintained emergency services, stated hospital superintendent Dr Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra.

The conflict, which began on Monday evening, reached its peak on Wednesday when house surgeons threatened an indefinite cease-work action.
