The Silchar Medical College and Hospital in Assam has rescinded an advisory that warned women doctors and staff to avoid going alone to isolated areas at night. The advisory was initially issued by Principal and Chief Superintendent Dr. Bhaskar Gupta in reaction to a recent rape and murder case involving a trainee doctor at R G Kar Medical College in Kolkata.
“The earlier advisory stands cancelled, and a new advisory will be issued soon,” Gupta clarified.
The decision to cancel the advisory came after student protests, where they demanded improved security measures within the hospital premises.
