The Silchar Medical College and Hospital in Assam has revoked its advisory that recommended female doctors and staff avoid isolated areas at night.
The advisory, issued by Principal cum Chief Superintendent Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, followed the recent rape and murder of a trainee doctor at R G Kar Medical College in Kolkata. Gupta said the advisory aimed to increase the safety of women on campus.
However, student protests have led to the withdrawal of the advisory, demanding better security measures instead. The Junior Doctors' Association called the advisory insufficient and urged for improved lighting, dedicated security, and CCTV installation.
