US President Joe Biden leveraged his recent positive COVID-19 test as a platform for a political statement, directing criticism towards entrepreneur Elon Musk and former President Donald Trump. Shortly after confirming his diagnosis, Biden expressed his frustration on X (formerly known as Twitter). Not only did he address his health, but he also shared his disdain for Musk's political maneuvers. "I'm sick," Biden wrote, referencing his condition, then quickly shifted focus. "Of Elon Musk and his rich buddies trying to buy this election. And if you agree, pitch in here," he added.
Accompanying his message were images of both Musk and Trump along with a link directing to a donation page for Biden's 2024 campaign. Musk has been openly supportive of Trump in the upcoming presidential race, recently endorsing Trump on X following a violent incident at a Pennsylvania rally involving the former President. Musk has also criticized Biden's age and immigration policies on the platform, often voicing his support for Trump.
In related news, The Wall Street Journal reported that Musk plans to donate approximately USD 45 million per month to a pro-Trump political action committee. Musk responded to this report on X with a meme labeled "FAKE GNUS," questioning the accuracy of the financial figures.
Biden, who tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday after attending the NAACP National Convention in Las Vegas, will return to Delaware for self-isolation while continuing his presidential duties, according to a White House statement. Biden, 81, has been vaccinated and received his latest booster shot in September 2023. Before leaving Las Vegas, he reassured reporters of his health and was seen boarding Air Force One without a mask.
