The Indian Navy warship INS Teg is engaged in a relentless search and rescue operation off the coast of Oman after an oil tanker capsized on July 15. So far, eight Indian nationals and one Sri Lankan have been pulled from the water alive. The mission is progressing as the Navy continues to comb the area for additional missing crew members.
The operation commenced immediately post-capsizing, with INS Teg deploying advanced rescue equipment and skilled personnel. Coordination with local Omani authorities and international maritime agencies has been initiated to amplify search efforts. This mission remains of utmost priority as efforts persist to locate any remaining survivors and provide them with the necessary aid.
“Nine crew members from MV Falcon Prestige, including eight Indians and one Sri Lankan, have been recovered alive during the search and rescue operations. The mission to find the remaining crew members will continue in the area,” the Indian Navy confirmed.
The MV Falcon Prestige capsized approximately 25 nautical miles southeast of Ras Madrakah, Oman, on July 15. Collaborative search and rescue efforts with Omani authorities have been underway since July 16. The vessel had 16 crew members on board, comprising 13 Indians and three Sri Lankans.
The mission is being conducted under challenging weather conditions, with rough seas and strong winds posing significant obstacles. The Indian Navy's Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance aircraft P8I has also joined the search for survivors, as confirmed by the Indian Navy. The Indian Embassy in Oman maintains constant communication with Omani authorities to coordinate efforts efficiently.
Providing the latest rescue updates, the Indian Embassy in Oman stated on X, “The Embassy is coordinating SAR operations with Omani authorities and the Indian Navy for MT Prestige Falcon, a Comoros-flagged vessel that capsized off Oman on July 15. Nine crew members, including eight Indians, have been rescued today by INS Teg. The search for the remaining survivors continues,” the statement added.
