Taiwan reported a significant uptick in Chinese military activity around the Taiwan Strait early Thursday. The island nation's Ministry of National Defence (MND) disclosed the presence of numerous Chinese aircraft and vessels near its territory.
In a detailed statement, the MND revealed that it had detected 20 People's Liberation Army (PLA) aircraft and six People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) vessels in the vicinity of Taiwan. Notably, ten of these aircraft crossed the Taiwan Strait's median line—a traditionally recognized informal boundary.
The PLA aircraft were reported to have entered Taiwan's northern, southwestern, and eastern Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ), prompting a strategic response from Taiwan's defense forces. The MND assured the public that their military is closely monitoring the situation and ready to ensure national security. Heightened surveillance and defensive measures have been implemented, keeping Taiwan's military on heightened alert.
