The Indian diaspora celebrated India’s 78th Independence Day at Times Square in New York City on Thursday. The event featured several dance performances on popular Bollywood songs, drawing a large crowd and adding to the festive atmosphere.

India commemorated its 78th Independence Day, marking 77 years since gaining freedom from British colonial rule on August 15, 1947. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the national flag at the Red Fort in New Delhi for the 11th consecutive time. This year's theme, 'Viksit Bharat @ 2047,' underscores the government's goal of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047.

The Indian diaspora also participated in celebrations at the Indian Embassy in the United States, where India's Ambassador Vinay Mohan Kwatra hoisted the tricolor at India House in Washington, DC. The event saw the participation of Indian community members and friends of India.

Global leaders extended warm wishes to India on its Independence Day. French President Emmanuel Macron was among the first, expressing eagerness to collaborate with Prime Minister Modi on the ambitious goals set for the strategic partnership between India and France. Russian President Vladimir Putin lauded India's achievements in socio-economic, scientific, and technical spheres, emphasizing the strong bilateral relations between Moscow and New Delhi.

Putin, in his message to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stated, 'Over 77 years of independent development, your country has achieved generally recognized success in various sectors and has earned high authority on the world stage.' (ANI)
