Unable to bear the grief of his debt-ridden family and the harassment they were facing over default in loan payments, a class 11 student travelled from his home in Kozhikode district to the state capital to meet Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Vijayan, who met the boy and lent an ear to his troubles patiently, told him not to travel without informing his family.

Without telling his family, the boy took a train to the capital city and turned up outside Vijayan's official residence -- Cliff House here -- on Saturday evening in an autorickshaw and told the security there that he wishes to meet the CM, police said.

The security personnel called the police and the 16-year-old boy was taken to Museum police station for questioning where he told the officers why he wanted to meet the CM.

The officers informed the boy's family as well as the CM about the incident.

Thereafter, the boy's father reached the state capital and Vijayan met both of them, they said.

The boy told Vijayan that his father had availed a loan to build their 2BHK home and when he defaulted in payment of some installments, a notice was sent to them, according to visuals of the meeting shown on CPI(M)-run TV channel Kairali News.

After sending the boy and father back home, he directed the concerned department to examine if anything can be done on the boy's complaint.

The boy's hours long journey to meet the CM to raise the loan repayment related harassment issue assumes significance in the wake of the suicide by a 20-year-old college student who hung herself in her home after seeing the recovery notice pasted in front of the house by Kerala Bank.

She was found dead at her house in Kollam on September 20 evening.
