In one of the ''biggest hauls ever'', contraband Yaba tablets worth around Rs 40 crore has been seized from a car in Assam's Karimganj district, with one person arrested in this connection, a police officer said on Tuesday.

Additional Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das said seven lakh Yaba tablets, weighing around 88 kg, were seized from the car at Bagarul area, around 22 km from Karimganj town, late on Monday night.

''The recovery was made during routine night patrolling exercise in the area. The estimated price of the Yaba tablets is Rs 40 crore,'' he said.

The driver has been arrested, but others in the car managed to escape during the search operation, the official explained.

An investigation into the case under Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act is underway, Das added.

Sarma, meanwhile, complimented Karimganj Police on Twitter for the recovery, pointing that it is was 'one of the biggest hauls ever' in the state.

''What's heartening! Patrolling team was offered Rs 20 lakhs by driver to release the vehicle, which it rejected, displaying great honesty, integrity & dedication to service. The team will be rewarded by GoA (government of Assam) for its loyalty & sense of duty,'' the chief minister added.
