Man wanted for killing 3 people held in UP's Mathura

Police have arrested a 52-year-old man here who allegedly killed three people and had been absconding since 2018, officials said on Saturday.

The police had announced a reward of Rs 15,000 for information leading to his arrest, they said. ''The accused was evading arrest since 2018,'' Senior Superintendent of Police Shailesh Kumar Pandey said.

After receiving a tip off, Esari alias Esarail, a resident of Bishambhara village was nabbed late on Friday evening, he said.

The accused had allegedly murdered two brothers -- Khursheed and Hakmu -- in 2012 in his village, officials said.

While on bail in 2018, the accused killed another man, also named Khursheed, who was a witness in the double murder case as he refused to turn hostile in court, police said.

A country-made pistol with two live cartridges were recovered from his possession, they said.

The accused had committed crimes in other districts and neighbouring states as well, officials said, adding that other members of the gang would be arrested shortly.

The accused being sent to judicial custody and will also be booked under the Gangster Act, they added.
